New Microsoft Headquarters at the Airport – “The Circle”
The complete meeting room setup included electronic room booking displays as well as a digital signage wall in the reception area. Additionally, we were tasked with designing a hybrid conference center for large events with many participants.
Microsoft offers its employees flexible work models. “Work where you want” and “hybrid conferences” are standard practice at Microsoft. This type of collaboration requires cutting-edge digital collaboration solutions. Microsoft has established global configuration guidelines for meeting and conference rooms.
For all Microsoft locations worldwide, the global construction management firm Turner & Townsend was entrusted with documenting these guidelines in plans and having them implemented by local AV technology specialists.
Ganz Supravision AG was appointed by Turner & Townsend to bring these AV technology specifications to life at Microsoft’s new location in The Circle at Zurich Airport. Our team took on full project management for the AV technology. The challenge was to meet Microsoft’s global standards while also ensuring the high-quality construction and comfort levels typical in Switzerland—allowing users to operate video and conferencing systems effortlessly, efficiently, and without disruptions.
Seamless Project Execution with Global and Local Partners
The timely realization of this project depended on smooth collaboration with international suppliers, planning organizations (schematics, blueprints), and distributors. We coordinated implementation across multiple time zones while working with local partners such as electricians, interior designers, and furniture suppliers to execute the on-site installations.
A Cutting-Edge AV Standard: AV over IP
A notable feature of the new conference center at Microsoft is the introduction of AV over IP, a pioneering technology that is rapidly becoming the industry standard. This innovation offers multiple advantages:
-
A single network for all data and tasks (AV over IP)
- Eliminates the need for HDMI cabling, amplifiers, etc.
- Reduces cabling, simplifies installation, and lowers costs
-
Security and monitoring
- Since audio and video are transmitted over the IT network, monitoring is simplified and security standards are easier to uphold.
-
Scalability and location independence
- IP-based solutions can be operated and fully managed via the cloud.
-
Automation and control
- Devices in the network can be easily operated and controlled.
- Example: PTZ cameras, joystick controls, imaging intelligence, and advanced functions.
Reliable Service and Maintenance
In addition to hardware installation, Microsoft placed great emphasis on ensuring that Ganz Supravision AG would provide ongoing support for the solutions.
All devices are monitored in real time, allowing for immediate issue detection, diagnosis, and resolution—before any problems impact usability. This combination of hardware and service elements results in an optimal meeting room setup tailored to Microsoft’s needs. The installed solutions are now standardized across meeting rooms, ensuring ease of use for employees.
Thanks to Ganz Supravision AG’s comprehensive hardware and service coverage, Microsoft employees responsible for local IT and facility management no longer need to handle system functionality themselves. This allows them to focus more on their core responsibilities.
